Maria has practiced family law since 2014. She advocates for clients on a range of legal issues, including child and spousal support, property division, and custody and access. Maria employs a practical approach to family law in negotiating and drafting domestic contracts and separation agreements, and effectively representing clients at mediation, arbitration and in Family Court during different stages of the litigation process.
Maria graduated from York University with an Honours Bachelor of Arts in Psychology and a Certificate of Proficiency in the Spanish Language in 2009. Maria’s Honours Thesis examined the impact of the dissolution of a close personal relationship on subsequent social interactions with strangers. After graduation, Maria served as a research assistant at York University and the University of Toronto, examining different therapeutic models for the treatment of generalized anxiety disorder and trauma, and worked with community agencies that provided trauma-focused therapy for children who had experienced abuse and their families.
Maria graduated Osgoode Hall Law School with a J.D. in 2013. During law school, Maria co-founded the Osgoode Family Law Association and the Osgoode Peer Support Centre. She was also the Osgoode Coordinator of the Family Law Project through Pro Bono Students Canada, assisting unrepresented litigants in the family courts. Maria was called to the Ontario Bar in 2014, after articling with the Office of the Children’s Lawyer.
Maria is a member of the Ontario Bar Association and the Advocates’ Society.
